Alberto Del Rio vs. Tito Ortiz Announced for Combate Americas MMA Promotion

Former WWE and IMPACT Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio (also known as Alberto El Patron) will be squaring off against UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz in a mixed martial arts fight for the Combate Americas promotion, according to reports from both ESPN.com and MMAJunkie.com.

As MMA fans are aware, Tito Ortiz is widely considered to be one of the most successful MMA fighters of all time. He held the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship for over three years (April of 2000 until June of 2003), and has defeated some of the most prolific fighters in the history of the sport, including Ken Shamrock, Chuck Liddell, Vitor Belfort, Forrest Griffin, Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen.

The 44-year-old Ortiz currently holds a professional MMA record of 20-12-1.

Alberto Del Rio is a former four-time WWE World Champion, and has also held World Championships in IMPACT Wrestling, Global Force Wrestling, Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, and Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre.

Del Rio has a solid background in legitimate combat sports as well, as he was a very skilled amateur wrestler and also has a professional MMA fighting record of 9-5. His last MMA fight was in 2010, shortly before he debuted on WWE programming.

A date and venue for the fight has yet to be announced.
