WWE Universal Championship Introduced On Raw

On tonight's edition of WWE Raw, General Manager Mick Foley and Raw Commissioner Stephanie McMahon announced that due to the WWE Championship becoming the exclusive property of SmackDown Live thanks to the victory of Dean Ambrose at Sunday's Battleground event, the two would introduce a brand new heavyweight championship for their show. This new title was introduced as the WWE Universal Championship, with Foley explaining that the name was inspired by the WWE Universe. While the title itself was introduced, it was not officially shown to the crowd.

It was also announced that the inaugural titleholder will be determined at August's SummerSlam event, when two Fatal 4 Way matches take place on tonight's broadcast. The winners of those matches will then face each other in Raw's main event, with the winner of that match facing Seth Rollins at SummerSlam for the WWE Universal Championship.
