New Japan Pro Wrestling on AXS TV Results: 03/13/15 & 03/20/15

03/13/15

We open with the usual talking segment with a NJPW star, this week it is Kazuchika Okada.

We are welcomed in by Mauro Ranallo with Josh Barnett. The match this week takes place January 4, 2014 from the Tokyo Dome at Wrestle Kingdom 8. Climax 23 Champion Tetsuya Naito makes his way to the ring for his IWGP Heavyweight Championship match. IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika “Rainmaker” Okada is out next. The announcers hype the match as we go to a break.

Back from the break the bell rings as both wrestlers stare each other down. They lock up and share some back and forth feeling each other out for several minutes. Naito finally gets the upper hand with a deep arm drag and a drop kick. He wears Okada down with a reverse chin lock and a head scissors submission. Naito hits a “Swanton bomb” and gets a two count. Naito applies another submission hold and wears Okada down in the ring but Okada gets to the ropes to break the hold. Okada catches Naito with a drop kick and knocks him to the outside. Outside the ring Okada puts Naito in a submission hold on the ramp. Okada then hits a running basement drop kick as we go to a break.

Back from the break both men are back in the ring Okada hits a neck breaker and gets a two count. Okada hits a “Swanton bomb’ from the outside then steps and poses on Naito for a two count. Okada wears Naito down with the DID submission hold in the center of the ring. Naito finally gets to the ropes for the break. Okada misses a flying elbow and Naito hits two drop kicks in the corner to Okada. Naito hits a basement drop kick followed by a drop kick in the corner. Naito wears and beats Okada down in the corner as Okada rolls to the outside. Naito goes to outside as well and hits a “Tornado” DDT onto the floor. Back in the ring Naito hits a “missile” drop kick to the back of Okada. Okada counters the headlock with a submission move which Naito counters with the “Puma Blanca” but Okada gets to the ropes to break the hold. They exchange some chops and head butts in the corner. Naito goes to the top rope and Okada drop kicks him to the floor as we go to a break.

Back from the break Okada hits the draping DDT onto the floor as he gets back into the ring. The 20 count begins on Naito and he makes it back to stop the count at 18. Okada hits the diving elbow from the top rope and poses. Naito hits a kick and then counters a move with the spike DDT. Naito hits a rolling kick on Okada. Naito takes Okada down into the “Puma Blanca” after a missed drop kick by Okada. Okada gets to the ropes and breaks the hold. Naito hits a German suplex and gets a two count. Naito goes to the top rope but Okada catches him. Back on the mat Naito hits a hard forearm. Okada hits the “Flapjack” to get some breathing room. Okada hits a DDT and locks in the “Red Ink” submission. Naito fights to the ropes to break the hold as we go to a break.

Back from the break Okada has Naito in a gut wrench move. Naito fights back with a head butt followed by a jumping elbow. Naito hits the “Frankensteiner” from the top rope followed by the “Dragon” suplex and gets a two count. Naito hits “Gloria” and gets another two count, but misses the “Star Dust Press”. Okada hits the reverse neck breaker and gets a two count. Okada hits “Heavy Rain: but Naito kicks out at two. Naito reverses the “Rainmaker” into a roll up but only gets a two count. Naito hits a slam and both men are down on the mat. They exchange blows from their knees then get back to their feet. Naito hits a head butt but Okada gets an upper cut. Naito slaps Okada hard after he misses the “Rainmaker”. Okada hits a drop kick but misses the Rainmaker and Naito rolls him up with the “jackknife” cover but only gets a two count. Okada hits a drop kick to the back of Naito as we go to a break.

Back from the break hits the “tombstone” pile driver then Okada hits another one and hits the “Rainmaker”, Okada gets the pin for the win.

Winner: Kazuchika Okada

After the match Okada celebrates in the ring. We see an interview segment in the back with Okada where he talks about something special happening this year. We then see Naito who is clearly distraught about not winning. He says he will try again and says he is the face of NJPW.

We go to the opening interview with Okada talking about this match. Ranallo and Barnett take us off the air for the night.

We open with the usual talking segment with a NJPW star, this week it is Hiroshi Tanahashi.

We are welcomed in by Mauro Ranallo with Josh Barnett. The match this week takes place January 4, 2014 from the Tokyo Dome at Wrestle Kingdom 8. Hiroshi Tanahashi makes his way to the ring first. Shinsuke Nakamura is out next. Both wrestlers have quite the extravagant entrances. Ranallo nukes a Fandango joke. Ranallo compares this match to Mayweather vs. Pacquiao. Both men are in the ring going thru final preparations.

They spend the first few minutes feeling each other out with some back and forth. Nakamura hits some kicks but Tanahashi hits a knee breaker to get the upper hand. Nakamura turns a cross body from Tanahashi into a back breaker. He then hits the knee stomp to the face of Tanahashi for the two count. Both men go to the outside of the ring and Nakamura drops Tanahashi on the ring barrier and rolls him back in the ring. Nakamura hits a stiff kick knocking Tanahashi into the corner. Tanahashi hits a “Dragon screw” leg whip as we got to a break.

Back from the break Tanahashi hits a flying forearm then slams Nakamura on the mat. Tanahashi hits a summersault “Senton” for a two count. Tanahashi takes out the left knee of Nakamura with a drop kick. Tanahashi continues to work on the injured knee. Nakamura hits a spinning hook kick to create some separation. Nakamura puts a front choke on Tanahashi to wear him down. Nakamura hits a slam and gets a two count. Nakamura misses a splash but Tanahashi misses the cross body and lands on the ropes. Nakamura hits several high knee lifts on Tanahashi. Nakamura connect with a kick to the head of Tanahashi then goes to the outside. He throws Tanahashi into the ring barrier followed by a running high knee, he then throws Tanahashi back into the ring. Nakamura misses a diving knee to the outside and is injured. Tanahashi hits the “high-fly-flow” from the top rope to the outside as the 20 count begins on both wrestlers. Tanahashi throws Nakamura back in the ring as we go to a break.

Back from the break Tanahashi uses the ropes to execute the ”Dragon screw” leg sweep. Nakamura locks in the triangle submission in the center of the ring. Tanahashi fights back and turns the triangle into a “Texas Cloverleaf” but Nakamura fights to the ropes to break the hold. Tanahashi hits a German suplex for a two count. Tanahashi goes to the top rope but Nakamura catches him with a kick to the head. Tanahashi skins the cat but Nakamura catches him with a “back cracker”. They exchange forearms in the center of the ring which Nakamura gets the upper hand of with some knees and kicks finished with a “Boma Ye” to the back of the head on Tanahashi. Nakamura hits a neck breaker then a reverse power slam on Tanahashi. Tanahashi turns a firemen’s carry into a “Slingblade” as both men fall to the mat. Tanahashi goes to the top rope but Nakamura catches him after some wavering Nakamura hits a “code breaker” on Tanahashi. Tanahashi hits a “Dragon” Suplex he then hurries to the top rope and hits the “high-fly-flow” but only gets a two count as we go to a break.

Back from the break Nakamura hits a huge drop kick on Tanahashi and then hits the “Boma Ye” from the top rope, followed by another “Boma Ye” as he only gets a two count. Tanahashi starts to work over the knee of Nakamura again. Tanahashi locks in the “Texas Cloverleaf” then turns it into a modified “Styles clash”. Tanahashi goes to the top rope and hits the “high-fly-flow” twice and gets the pin for the win.

Winner: Hiroshi Tanahashi New IWGP Intercontinental Champion

After the match Stan Hanson present the championship to Tanahashi. In the back we see Nakamura talking about his loss and says today is the day a new era starts. Back in the ring Tanahashi thanks the fans and says he is glad he believed. We see Tanahashi celebrating with the fans and Marty Friedman. We go to the opening interview segment where Tanahashi talks about this match with Nakamura as we go off the air.
