[WNS Column] Is The Creative Team To Blame?

Hello everybody and welcome to another column here on wrestlingnewssource.com and today I am going to be taking a look at what WWE's number one problem seems to be currently.

I of course refer to the shambles that is WWE's current creative team. Now before I get started, I just want to say that to work in this department for WWE is in itself a challenge. Make the wrong call in a script and you might make an enemy out of a big player. Likewise, if an up and coming talent queries something he could make an enemy out of the creative head honchos. What seems to have been created in the aftermath of the fall of WCW is creative at times seem to be set on cruise control.

What happens when there is no competition? Well, you end up with characters like Hornswoggle and the bunny. People trying to tap into a comedy which just isn't there and the masses do not find appealing. If you are writing to please an executive and not the fans, you have a major problem.

What also is a major factor in my opinion is the turnover of staff and where WWE recruit from. If you continually hire soap writers who have no idea the history of wrestling and expect results time after time then it's never going to work out.

It has resulted in what we see now. Poor planning and poor execution. WWE need to thank the stars that they do have no serious competition because if they did, the numbers watching raw would drop like flies. You cannot hinge your entire show on a hot ending. What is the main difference between today's booking and the booking of the attitude era? Well it's simple. WWE used to care about its mid card and spent the time required in order to make the audience care about them. Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart had to wait seven years before they got a big break. Now all WWE creative seems concerned with is making the next big money making baby face which has resulted in severe damage to the heel side of the roster. Apart from Bray Wyatt and Seth Rollins, which heel could currently step up and take a top spot? Not many.

It distresses me that WWE have such a well of talent down in NXT yet seemingly are happy to continue with the forever turning Big Show and Kane in top roles. WWE creative seems to be afraid to insert someone fresh from NXT into a top heel position. Kevin Owens would flourish alongside Triple H and Rollins in The Authority. Hard hitting, no nonsense and somebody the fans clearly want to see sooner rather then later on WWE programming.

WWE seems stuck in a "if it's not broken, don't fix it mentality" yet seem unable to see the problems in their programming. Who is to blame for this is debatable. Is it Vince McMahon who is personally writing Roman Reigns disastrous promos? Is it simply the creative team not being good enough? Whoever is responsible needs to now step up and drive forward on a high into WrestleMania season because if the current state of affairs continues for too long, WWE will find themselves backed into corners time and time again when it comes to continuity and freshness.

What would you do to fix the current issues in creative? Let me know in the comments!
