Vince Russo Thinks JBL Belittles WWE, Talks Turning John Cena Heel and More

Vince Russo recently took part in a Reddit, Ask Me Anything! for /SquaredCircle. Below are some of the highlights.

Q: What are your opinions on Kevin Dunn and WWE's commentary?

Russo: "I think Kevin Dunn is almost as valuable to the WWE as Vince McMahon. Kevin always has been second in command and has had a great, great deal in the success of WWE. As far as the announce team goes, let's just say...I'm not a big fan of JBL. I think, whether he realizes it or not, on many occasions, he belittles the product."

Q: Who do you think is the best male wrestler and best female wrestler in WWE right now?

Russo: From a wrestling perspective, Dolph and Paige.

Q: If you were running WWE creative right now, what would you do with Cena?
Do you think that Roman Reigns should be the next top guy of WWE? Is it too early?

Russo: No question, I would turn Cena heel and I would have turned him heel a long time ago. I wrote a longer, in-depth column about this on my site too at PyroandBallyhoo.com -- was right before SummerSlam. I fantasy booked how I would have booked the ppv and the following night on Raw. I like Roman Reigns, but I think he needs to be developed a little bit more and I don't think the WWE should be in a hurry to push him too fast, too soon.

Q: If you'd have stayed in WWF for another year or so, was Jericho set to win the World Title and main event Wrestlemania against The Rock in 2000?

Russo: Ed Ferrara and myself had written for Jericho to defeat The Rock the week before we left for WCW. When that show aired, they changed the finish and put Rock over. If Jericho would have won that match, his climb up the ladder in WWE would have been much quicker.

Q: What is your favorite and least favorite thing about Vince McMahon?

Russo:

Favorite -- his work ethic.

Least favorite -- putting work above family.

Q: Is Dixie Carter smarter than wrestling fans give her credit for?

Russo: That's just a matter of opinion. One of the issues concerning Dixie's running of TNA is that I believe she's made errors in judgement on multiple occasions, surrounding herself with the wrong people.

Q: What the hell was the point of giving yourself the WCW Championship?

Russo: Because I'm a total mark and the first words I ever spoke when I came out of my mother's wound, was that one day, I was going to be the WCW Champion. And all through pre-school and kindergarden and grade school and high school, that dream never left me. My whole intention of getting in the wrestling business in the first place, was to become the WCW World Champion for three whole days. That's why I even started at the WWE. I knew I wasn't good enough to be the WWE Champion, but if I just could get some experience there, then MAYBE, just MAYBE, I could fulfill my destiny of being the WCW Champion. And it was only by the grace of GOD that my dreams were fulfilled and I was able to hold that WCW title high above my head and say, "I did it!" At that point in time, my life was complete.

Q: What do you think about the rumors saying that McMahon sent you to ruin WCW from the inside?

Russo: That is not a rumor. Here's some breaking news: for the first time I am going to admit that publicly. Vince McMahon did INDEED send me to WCW to take them down. As a matter of fact, not only did Vince McMahon suggest that I win the WCW title to drive the first nail into the coffin, but let the truth be told, it was Vince McMahon's idea to put the WCW title on David Arquette to kill that company once and for all. I'm sorry it took me so long to admit that, but I feel much better now that I did.

Q: Hey Vince. You are one of, if not THE most polarizing figure in the history of pro wrestling. What legacy do you hope to leave behind after it's all said and done? Also, has anyone ever said anything about you in a shoot or other interview that has really stung? Who were they, and what did they say? Thanks for doing this, and thanks for being so open to discourse with fans of pro wrestling.

Russo:As far as my legacy, it's real simple: I've always strived for professional wrestling to be the best it can be, while drawing the largest audiences possible. And up until this point, I think it's fair to say, that I was a "part" in achieving that.
As far as comments that really sting, the only ones that are really sad pertain to the passing of Owen.

Q: How would you go about "Fixing" the Wyatts? Right now they seem to be treading water not advancing anywhere in the WWE. They've lost essentially all the momentum they've had since they lose a ton more than they win. How would you book them to get that momentum back and make them look like a credible threat?

Russo: For starters, Rowan and Harper have been on a losing streak. If I were Bray, I would start taking that personally, and I would start punishing Rowan and Harper and start becoming much more stiff with them. That alone right there should wake them up and should instill even a meaner streak than when they first debuted. I think it needs to start there. I think Rowan and Harper need to fear Bray Wyatt first.
